When You're Exhausted and Need a Reset

If you are in crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself, please don't wait. Call 999 (police) or 998 (ambulance) in an emergency, or contact the UAE national support line on 800-HOPE (4673). This article covers reflection and planning and does not replace crisis support.
Sometimes the weight of work, responsibilities and setbacks makes everything feel heavier than it should. If you're running on empty, here are seven ways to reset.
1. This is a phase
Difficult periods end. Life moves in highs and lows, and this stretch will change. Treat it as a season, and you can plan your next step.
2. You are stronger than you think
You've handled every difficult moment life has handed you so far. That track record is evidence of resilience. You have overcome before, and you can draw on that strength again.
3. Small steps count
Progress feels slow when you're drained. Lasting change rarely comes in leaps and builds through small, consistent steps, so a short walk or a cleared inbox counts.
4. Remember your "why"
Reconnect with your reasons for moving forward: your goals, the people you care about, the work you want to do. Remembering your purpose can restore motivation and remind you why you started.
5. Treat setbacks as lessons
Every success story includes setbacks. Ask what this one taught you and use it in your next attempt.
6. Practice self-care
Taking care of yourself is necessary. Prioritize the basics:
- nourishing food
- movement and exercise
- restful sleep
- time with supportive people
- activities that bring you joy
Self-care keeps your energy up.
7. It's okay to ask for help
You don't have to handle everything alone. Asking for support is a practical decision. Talk to a trusted friend or family member, or to a licensed professional if what you're feeling is heavy or isn't easing. Coaching can help you plan and build momentum, and it does not replace professional care.
Start with the basics
If you do only one thing this week, fix your sleep or take a proper break, then come back to the rest. Exhaustion distorts how big everything looks, and rest is usually the first thing that shrinks it back down.
